SPONSORS: A special group art exhibition with the title “Athenian Cats” is inaugurated at the Andie Art Gallery on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 (19:00) , aiming to support and strengthen the work of “Dorotea’s Cats Rescue ”, a volunteer effort for the rescue, care, sterilization, and adoption of stray cats, created by Dorotea Mercuri. The exhibition, curated by art historian Annita Patsouraki, presents works of painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, and decorative constructions, inspired by the world of animals and their harmonious relationship and coexistence with humans. As Annita Patsouraki notes in her text about the exhibition: “Artistic” approaches of realistic depiction, abstract writing, and symbolism highlight the utmost importance of protection, care, and our responsibility towards animals.   The 38 participating artists, all animal lovers and caretakers of stray animals, visually convey the feelings of fulfillment and inexhaustible, selfless love of the coexistence between humans and pets, urging us to act for their protection and care. Under the slogan “We love animals – We love life” the exhibition presents visual artworks focused on the wonderful and mysterious world of the cat, as well as inspired by almost the entire animal kingdom, catering to everyone’s preferences while simultaneously showing love and respect for all living beings in nature. The aim of the exhibition is to awaken, move, and encourage the public towards animal welfare by combining art and artistic creation, with meaningful and effective actions. The alienation of humans from nature as well as modern living in the urban fabric of a city both create needs for support, often not understood by the majority and unfortunately difficult for the defenseless pets, fully dependent on us. Wandering in adverse weather conditions of a concrete city, completely hostile to their nature, they desperately search for water, minimal food for their survival, and a nest to quietly hide somewhere. What are they chasing, and where? The concrete, the cars are everywhere. Their life is particularly difficult. The obvious is not always clear to everyone! Social awareness and government assistance are clearly lacking. Volunteering, personal responsibility, and collective effort are hoped to bring immediate substantial changes to their well-being.   Their well-being reflects our own humanity, our own spiritual reserve and greatness. Caring for and protecting them breeds within us kindness of soul, tenderness, and boundless generosity, and serves as an example that love is proven through actions. The course of human evolution unfortunately does not testify to love and protection for nature and the environment. Animals, wherever they are from the jungle to our backyard, are often neglected, abused, and abandoned. Art, through colors, movement, and gaze, conveys the familiar and beloved image of animals, inviting us to feelings of empathy. The beauty of the presence of animals - pets, companions, domesticated - is an invitation and initiative for action towards care, protection, and adoption. Well-being is not a privilege; it is a right and a responsibility for all of us. Dorotea Mercuri is a Greek Italian actress and author of Italian cooking. She has been involved with stray animals since her adolescence, as her family always had pets. Having returned to Greece from abroad where she lived, her animal welfare activities continued with unwavering enthusiasm. The dramatic observation of the maximum abandonment of animals following the lockdown due to the pandemic led her to create “Dorotea’s Cats Rescue” with organized, systematic, and continuously daily action throughout Athens. With personal involvement, he/she searches for, cares for, treats, sterilizes, and promotes the adoption of stray cats. Since 2020 and intensively from 2022, with a large team of experienced volunteers and veterinarians, she has overseen and coordinated the sterilization of more than 120 cats, the rescue and care of 150 cats, some of which were in a semi-dead condition, and has managed and coordinated the adoption of more than 35 cats who have found responsible guardians.   “In our country, where state care fails to meet the welfare needs of stray animals, volunteerism must become a consciousness and responsibility for all of us.” Come and meet the "Athenian Cats" and their friends. Speakers: Zacharias Rochas , actor and director Annita Patsouraki , art historian Excerpts from the book will be read by the actresses: Daisy Sebekopoulou and Sara Terzi. The event will be coordinated by the author, Gogo Atzoletaki . A Few Words About the Book “The Third Spring” Alexandra, living in isolation and loneliness, counts her years — and surely, they are many. She now finds herself in the “grey zone” of her life… But she is neither as old nor as sick as others believe. And those “others” are none other than her children — her son and especially her daughter-in-law — who no longer want the grandmother around in their luxurious home, a home Alexandra herself helped them acquire. So how can they get rid of the “old lady”? Where could they send her? The nursing home is always a convenient solution! Unable to resist, Alexandra submits to her fate, resigned to ending her days there — abandoned and forgotten. Yet life, always unpredictable, brings a great reversal. There, in the nursing home, new horizons open up before her… Her roommate, Nora, a painter, finds in Alexandra’s face — or rather, in her body — the ideal model for a new series of paintings. This chance encounter becomes the spark for a new beginning, for unprecedented and hopeful horizons. Never say “never”! A remarkable novel with an unexpected plot. An ode to the “third age” of a woman’s life — one that may yet become her… third spring! The Art Exhibition A group art exhibition of the same title, inspired by excerpts from the book, featuring works of painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, and decorative constructions, accompanies the event at Andie Art Gallery. The exhibition’s curator, Annita Patsouraki, writes: “Reading ‘The Third Spring’ conjured vivid images that led me on a passionate search for artworks that would realistically or metaphorically align with the story. This exhibition, diverse in artistic technique, is a tribute to that stage of life marked by rich experience, deep wisdom, and the invaluable contribution of our elders. Selected excerpts from the book were chosen for visual interpretation — to convey meanings, emotions, and memories, while drawing the viewer into the unfolding scene as participant, accomplice, or observer. Expressive faces marked by wrinkles of joy and struggle, eyes full of warmth and priceless experience — recognizable figures that extend, intensify, and embody the descriptive narrative. Portraits depict beloved, familiar faces of the artists’ own circles, as well as internationally recognized figures who, even in midlife, fought for their dreams, dared to break social and personal barriers, and defined their own future — proving that age need not be an obstacle. These images awaken memories and inspire us to savor every moment of everyday life. Age is just a number. It’s up to us how we live it — and let’s not forget the wise old saying: ‘Where you once were, I am now — and where I am, you shall come…!’” The biography of Gogo Atzoletaki Gogo Atzoletaki hails from Sitia, Crete. She studied theater at the Drama School of Giorgos Theodosiadis, and throughout her extensive career, she has had a fruitful theatrical journey, sometimes as a theater company owner and other times in collaboration with various producers, covering a broad range of repertoire. At the same time, she has had a successful career in television, radio, and film. She has written and translated theatrical works that have been staged, and as a columnist, she has contributed to newspapers, literary magazines, and online media outlets. In December 2009, she was awarded by the International Family Support Society for her contribution to the serious issue of female and child abuse, through her novels “Your Friend, Rosalía” and “The Z of Life.” She is a member of the Society of Greek Playwrights. • THE THIRD SPRING - CURATOR | AndieArt

Art exhibition and presentation of the book “The Third Spring” by Gogo Atzoletaki. An art exhibition inspired by excerpts from the book, featuring works of painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, and decorative creations, will accompany and enrich the space of Andie Art Gallery. THE THIRD SPRING by Gogo Atzoletaki Epimetro Publications - Athens, 2025 It is a short story composed of experiential episodes, rendered with realistic detail — an ode to old age and a hymn to life. It pays tribute to the elderly, to the fluctuations of emotion, to self-esteem, and to the pursuit of our dreams. The author’s unique sensibility creates an engaging work, divided into conceptual chapters that, successively and alternately, become descriptively realistic, allegorical, and symbolic — inspired by the human presence and focused on the inner world of the protagonist. With a lyrical tone, it delves into her emotional universe and expresses personal reflections and social viewpoints with courage and sincerity. The sections share common threads: deep introspection, emotional sensitivity, and the fragmentation of thoughts born from emotional changes and social concerns. Gogo Atzoletaki’s narrative pen once again confirms the quality of her writing — her use of a rich, expressive language that unfolds densely, fluidly, and with clarity. The author surprises and moves the reader with her sincere, spontaneous, and natural expression, allowing hidden emotions, buried deep within the soul, to unfold and take root in the mind. It is a deeply emotional work, within whose pages each of us may find our own moments, memories, and aspects of ourselves — truths that mirror our own. The short story “The Third Spring” touched me profoundly and moved me deeply. Within the flow of words and the unfolding of meaning, I found buried emotions and thoughts of anxiety and intense reflection. It is an edition in which each narrative section develops into a visual frame — a descriptive narration through independent images. Familiar, intimate, nostalgic, comic, and even painful images depict behavioral archetypes that give another dimension to the story’s evolution. Emotions, throughout the text, shift constantly. The images, vivid and explicit, leave imagination and the subconscious powerfully exposed to influence. Gogó Atzoletaki continues her journey through the labyrinths of the human psyche and the branches of the mind. With an adventurous, restless, yet sensitive and incisive spirit, she expresses her views with strength. Moved by the social changes that affect people — particularly the elderly — she writes with emotion, respect, and a subtle sense of humor. She speaks of life’s battles that always teach us something, even those we have lost, and of the tangled emotions that unsettle us without our being able to resist, yet which emerge for a purpose that we come to understand only at the end of the experience. Through “The Third Spring,” Gogo Atzoletaki sends a hopeful message — and with the expected dignity that characterizes her, she offers a smile of optimism! Reading “The Third Spring” sparked vivid imagery that led me to an ardent search for artworks that might correspond — realistically or metaphorically — to the story. This visual art exhibition, employing varied techniques, stands as a tribute to the stage of life characterized by rich experience, deep wisdom, and the invaluable contribution of our loved ones. Excerpts from the book were chosen for artistic interpretation — to give descriptive or symbolic expression to its meanings, emotions, and memories — while drawing the viewer into the unfolding scene as participant, accomplice, or observer. These compositions add visual value to the written word and inseparably define the aesthetic framework and artistic outcome. They embody landscapes of memory with writing that is clear, precise, and elegantly crafted — balanced in form, color, and symbolic meaning. The artists, through their recognizable brushstrokes, unite in a collective expression using diverse media. They depict with emotional intensity and balanced design compositions — evoking associative memories where nostalgia coexists with contemplation. With sensitivity and respect, they describe each story and sweet recollection, capturing the changes brought by time — physical changes, yes, but more importantly, the beauty, strength, wisdom, tenderness, and challenges of old age. Expressive faces marked by wrinkles of joy and struggle, eyes glowing with warmth and precious experience — familiar and beloved forms that extend, intensify, and embody the descriptive narrative. Portraits depict dear and familiar people from the artists’ own lives, as well as internationally recognized figures who claimed their lives even in midlife — who fought for their dreams, dared to cast off social and personal restraints, and shaped their own futures, with age never serving as a barrier or obstacle. These images awaken memories and offer inspiration — an encouragement to enjoy every moment of our daily life. Age is always just a number. It depends on us how we experience it. A moving dialogue emerges between the reader, the viewer, and the portrayed figure, who lends their wisdom, spirit, and habits — becoming a mediator between past and present, between the “before” and the “now.” Art, in all its forms, is a means of expressive creation — a source of emotional pleasure and release that brings recognition, acceptance, self-esteem, and reward. In the dominion of time, memory becomes our treasury — and every moment is unique and unrepeatable. The dynamic Eleanor Roosevelt once said: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Our era often ignores or marginalizes old age, rarely highlighting its priceless value. To live is to exist. The ancient Greeks said: “As long as I breathe, I hope” — the well-known Latin phrase “dum spiro, spero.” The verb “to breathe” (pnéo) is found in “inspire,” “respire,” “exhale” — enclosing within it the essence of hope (sperum, espoir). As the ancient Cynic philosopher Bion of Borysthenes (c. 325–255 BC) aptly noted: “Do not reproach old age, the state to which we all pray to arrive.” And I, in turn, recall the wise folk saying: “Where you once were, I am now — and where I am, you shall come…” Annita Patsouraki – Art Historian Back

  • ANTIGONE PAGONAS - APOPLOUS II | AndieArt

The solo exhibition of Antigoni Pagona showcasing her photographic work of her travels ANTIGONE PAGONAS APOPLOUS II PHOTOGRAPHY In the context of the great celebration of shipping "Posidonia", the AndieArt Space presents Antigone Pagonas' photographic project "Apoplous II", which returns enriched with new works, after the first exhibition in Piraeus, in 2021. Pagonas, having worked for more than 20 years in the shipping sector, she presents the images of her own sea wanderings, with her starting point, the port of her "Apoplous", Piraeus. Pagonas, in both her painting and photographic endeavors, is always looking for places that will lead her to a process of introspection and self- knowledge... Rocks, shores, ports, seas, ship details are the subject of her images that are transformed, as she does not hesitate to experiment either with surfaces and angles, or to isolate details, or take advantage of the light and color giving her images a metaphysical dimension. Pagonas creates simple, almost abstract images, with a strong mysterious character. Her works stand intact and timeless, without betraying a specific location or time. The 2:1 cinematic frames satisfy the viewer's eye, while the strictness of the square, in other cases, captures him to her own point of interest. The sailing, the departure, the Apoplous of the ship marks the beginning of an inner search which in the case of Pagona is an end in itself. An endless journey in which distant and exotic coasts, cosmopolitan ports, and images from the Greek seas and islands alternate. Her origin from the island of Chios, the life in Monaco and Switzerland, the family tradition in the field of shipping are some of the elements that shaped the look of a cosmopolitan traveler whose connection with the sea is deep and organic. Anna Chassanakou Art Historian / Curator Curator: Anna Chassanakou (Art Forward Curate) Opening: Friday, May 31, 2024, at 7.00 p.m. Exhibition duration: May 31 - June 22, 2024 Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday: 12:00 - 20:00, Saturday: 11:00 - 16:00, Sunday, Monday: Closed Catalogue
